The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new version of Nexium, the first of its kind in the United States, for use in heartburn treatment. The medicine, which is manufactured by a company called AstraZeneca, was approved by the FDA in the US in September 2001 and has been available since then.
“It’s very important that all doctors who prescribe Nexium have a good understanding of the drug,” said Janet Woodcock, M. D., the FDA’s acting commissioner.
